The View from the FCC: A Conversation with the FCC
Public Safety & Homeland Security Bureau
Presented by:
John Blumenschein, FCC

Our morning general session begins with a panel of attorneys representing the state broadcasters’ associations and the NAB discussing the latest regulatory issues that impact a station’s technical operations. Topics to be discussed include: the status of the NAB/FCC NextGen TV task force; new EAS event codes and cybersecurity certification proposals; the expiration of the waiver of audio description of non-news, nontextual emergency alerts; GeoBroadcast Solutions FM booster origination; FM nonduplication effective dates, and pre-sunrise and post-sunset authority for AM. Additionally, the panel will explore how the upcoming election could impact legislative priorities, including Congressional issues such as the future of AM radio in cars and the FCC’s auction authority.

The morning general session will conclude with a conversation with John Blumenschein, an attorney in the Cybersecurity and Communications Reliability Division of the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. John will discuss some of the FCC’s priorities to ensure that the nation’s communications networks are reliable and secure, particularly during times of emergency. He will also share the FCC’s perspective on the role of broadcasters during emergency situations.
